This course will address the similarities and differences in clinical etiology, presentation and assessment of dementia, delirium and depression in older adults. Strategies to improve clinical engagement of people with cognitive and mental health issues will be discussed that can be implemented immediately in clinical practice. This course is directly related to the practice of physical therapy and is therefore appropriate for the PT and PTA.

Learning Outcomes
- The participant will be able to identify at lest three signs dementia, delirium and depression in the home health client.
- The participant will be able to list at least three assessment tools to determine the most appropriate for home health client with dementia, delirium or depression.
- The participant will be able to list at least three strategies for improving communication and engagement for people with impaired cognition.
- Utilizing the AGS Beers Criteria for Inappropriate Medications for Older Adults, the participant will be able to identify at least two ways medications may be impacting cognitive function in the home health client.
- The participant will be able to identify at least three situations where referral to another provider is warranted to optimally support a person with dementia, delirium or depression.
