Question

What do you first look at with wrist pain in regards to bike fit being involved?

Answer

The most common cause of shoulder, hand, and wrist issues is oftentimes the downwardly tilted saddle or a saddle that is too far back.  Those create a lot of pressure out to hands and wrists.  Secondarily, handle bar positions that are too high or too low can cause problems at the hands and wrists.  Thirdly, that positioning of brake hood on bar and orientation of bar at stem are the things that we look at.  However, the people who come in with hand and wrist pain, they will most commonly have a poor saddle position that is driving a bunch of weight out to the hands.  If we have a person with a lot of pressure to the hands, it is because they are opposing their weight sliding forward on that saddle.  That is the thing to look at most commonly.
