What post-op protector do you use for transfemoral amputation?

We do have the AmpuShield post-operative limb protector. Basically it is a soft protector that has a pad in the bottom and is held on with a belt that holds the dressing in place very nicely. It has a big T-foam pad in the distal end, which is like your Tempur-Pedic mattress. It will absorb impact if someone falls or if they hit their leg against the bed rail. That is definitely one option. I believe that there is a rigid unit also available, but I like the nice soft transfemoral version.

John has specialized experience with active, proximal level, and upper extremity amputation patients as well as immediate post-operative care. He is the co-inventor of the patented Aircast Air-Limb post-operative prosthesis. John is active in research and patient care applications of new products. He presents at academic and medical institutions, teaches continuing education courses to prosthetists, and trains prosthetic residents. He recently won the Hanger Award for Pioneering Innovations.
