Learning Outcomes
- After this course, participants will be able to analyze the complexities of Parkinson’s disease to determine how occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists can collaborate to improve function and slow disablement in line with current literature.
- After this course, participants will be able to evaluate current interprofessional practice guidelines and evidence-based treatment approaches for Parkinson’s to determine how their current practice applies to them.
- After this course, participants will be able to evaluate how the interprofessional LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG treatment protocols fit within these practice guidelines and are supported by published research.

Ms. Wood received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Wellness from Ball State University in 1999 and Master’s in Occupational Therapy from the University of Minnesota in 2013. During her career, she has specialized in interdisciplinary treatment of individuals with neurological movement disorders and has served in interdisciplinary clinics for patients with atypical Parkinsonism, Huntington’s disease, ALS, and those considering Deep Brain Stimulation at a Parkinson’s Center of Excellence. Ms. Wood acts as occupational therapy faculty for the Parkinson Foundation’s Team Training for Parkinson’s program, educating clinicians in interdisciplinary focused, evidence-based evaluation and treatment of individuals with Parkinson’s disease. She received her LSVT BIG Certification in 2013 and joined the LSVT BIG faculty in 2018. She is a certified facilitator for the PDSELF program, and she serves as an ambassador for the Davis Phinney Foundation. She also serves on the Parkinson Foundation Rehabilitation Medicine Task Force and on the Comprehensive Care Subcommittee for the World Parkinson’s Congress. She currently is the Acting Director of Professional and Community Education at the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

Heather J. Cianci
PT, MS, GCS
Ms. Cianci is the Outpatient Neurologic Team Leader for Good Shepherd Penn Partners and founding therapist of the Dan Aaron Parkinson's Rehab Center at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She received her BS in Physical Therapy (1994) from the University of Scranton, and her MS in Gerontology (2004) from Saint Joseph's University, both in Pennsylvania. Heather received her Geriatric Clinical Specialist Certification in 1999 and was certified in LSVT BIG in 2007. She is also certified in PWR!, Rock Steady Boxing, and Music and Memory. Heather is Co-coordinator and PT Faculty for the Parkinson’s Foundation’s (PF) Team Training Program, the author of their educational manual Fitness Counts, and a contributing lecturer to their online Physical Therapy course. She has written and lectured for several local and national PD organizations, on-line CEU providers, and PT programs at Philadelphia area universities. Heather has published research on falls, freezing of gait, and bed mobility in PD, and is a former board member for CurePSP.

Heather Hodges
MA, CCC-SLP
Ms. Hodges received her master’s degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado. She has been part of Dr. Ramig’s research team since 2004. Ms. Hodges is a consultant, expert clinician, training and certification faculty, and CE Administrator with LSVT Global. She also enjoys her role within LSVT Global collaborating and presenting on Google’s Project Euphonia, which aims to improve voice recognition software for those with dysarthria and dysphonia. In addition to specializing in neurogenic voice and speech disorders, Ms. Hodges worked for 13 years at an outpatient hospital specializing in diagnosing and treating dysphagia, dysphonia, and upper airway disorders. She has presented nationally and internationally on LSVT LOUD, Parkinson’s disease, PVFM/VCD, cough, and dysphagia. Ms. Hodges has published articles and a book chapter on speech treatments for upper airway disorders. Educating others on the diagnosing and treatment of upper airway disorders remains a focus and passion for her.
