Methods and applications are discussed for use with clients who present with long-term dynamic splinting needs as well as benefits and inherent risks associated with the application of dynamic splinting in conjunction with specific population groups are covered in the final course of the series.

Learning Outcomes
- After this course, participants will be able to identify at least two methods of fabricating and/or implementing a dynamic wrist, dynamic elbow or forearm splint to increase or limit flexion or extension, and limit supination and pronation after nerve injury or repair.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify at least 2 anatomical characteristics of a client who presents with a need for a static elbow splint as compared to a static-progressive or dynamic elbow splint.
- After this course, participants will be able toList three (3) anatomical landmarks used in the process of fabricating upper extremity dynamic splints.
- After this course, participants will be able to recognize at least two advantages of implementing pre-fabricated dynamic elbow and elbow orthotics when medically appropriate for all client populations.
- After this course, participants will be able to recognize the need for dynamic splinting methods in the rehabilitation of acute neurological and orthopedic populations and identify specific methods to be incorporated in the fabrication of long-term dynamic splint application for all patient populations.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify three (3) characteristics of splinting materials and state how these characteristics may be utilized in the decision-making process as related to the dynamic splint fabrication process.

Dr. Kirsten Davin is a veteran Occupational Therapist of nearly 20 years, with extensive experience in a variety of practice settings including inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, intensive care, and the Central Illinois Regional Burn Center. Since initially obtaining her bachelor’s in occupational therapy in 2001, followed by her post-professional OT Doctorate (OTD) in 2007, Kirsten has served not only as a clinician but also in the role of a clinical consultant specializing in product design and development. Kirsten has fabricated hundreds of splints within her acute care and clinical consulting career, many of which were custom fabricated and individually designed on a case-by-case basis. Her splinting experience ranges from a standard safe position and resting hand splints to highly intricate dynamic splints for the hand, wrist, lower extremities, and cervical spine, incorporating all varieties of materials and splinting medium.
For more than a decade, she has been best known for her live, national speaking tours, which to date have reached over 20,000 therapists in 46 states. She has conducted thousands of educational events on the topics of seating/positioning, assistive technology, work-life balance, acute care/ICU rehabilitation, splint fabrication, orthotic application, and more. Dr. Davin is an engaging speaker who strives to make learning fun.
