- After this course, participants will be able to describe recommendations for relative rest and gradual return to activity based on current evidence and guidance after mTBI that can be applied across the lifespan.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify the areas of focus within the APTA Concussion Clinical Practice Guideline, providing a foundation for sequence intervention.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify strategies to capture symptom irritability using generic, and alternative, self-reporting measurement tools.
- After this course, participants will be able to list performance-based assessment tools that can be used to identify impairments in exercise tolerance, balance, and dual-task capacity that are appropriate for use after mTBI.
- After this course, participants will be able to describe strategies for designing appropriate therapy challenges that may provoke symptoms slightly but also encourage improvement over time.

Karen is a Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Division of Physical Therapy, Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, where she teaches entry level students, residents, and PhD students about neurologic physical therapy and research. Karen has cared about individuals post-TBI her entire PT career, starting with more moderate to severe injury in inpatient and residential settings eventually transitioning to work with military and sports mTBI with a research focus on the development of clinical tools and the development of interventions that facilitate return to duty or sport. She assisted in the development of the APTA Clinical Practice Guideline on Physical Therapy Management of Concussion and the development of the military Progressive Return to Activity Guidance. She has a long history of involvement in the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy and co-developed an online course series with MedBridge for those interested in pursuing neurologic specialty certification.
