The course addresses the health disparities of LGBTQ individuals, based the social determinants of health, including barriers to accessing care, lack of routine sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data collection, discrimination, and lack of provider knowledge about LGBTQ health. This course is directly related to the practice of physical therapy and is therefore appropriate for the PT and PTA.

Liz Margolies, LCSW is the founder and Executive Director of the National LGBT Cancer Network, the only US program that focuses exclusively on the needs of LGBT people with cancer and those at risk. Based in NYC, the Network focuses on education, training, advocacy and support. After having developed a nationally recognized cultural competence training curriculum for health and social service providers, Margolies travels the country training large hospital systems and speaking at conferences. As a result of her work for this underserved community, Margolies was chosen as one of the OUT100 in 2014.
