0-15 Minutes Background, Review of learning outcomes, Introduction to the prevalence and impact of chronic pain, and a historical review of pain science
15-30 Minutes Four pillars of managing chronic pain and ways to incorporate them into treatment plans. These include pain neuroscience education, sleep hygiene, aerobic conditioning and goal setting.
30-50 Minutes Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE): what we know now about pain science, pain experience and brain mapping, Multifactorial, Smudging Central sensitization. Clinical tools/land and aquatic based interventions. How and when to explain pain to a patient, including laymen’s terms, timing, and the amount of information to convey/ how much is retained. Recognizing yellow flags: Definition. Questionnaires and tools to assist in recognizing and documenting. Additional tools and references that are available.
50-60 Minutes Benefits of water specific to pain management - a research review
60-115 Minutes Clinical application (PNE+)Aquatic therapy interventions: Breathing, relaxation, cardiovascular/ aerobic exercise, exercise and techniques to improve proprioception and normalize sensory input, and exercise for stability.
