This two-hour course will give you a mechanism-based framework for evaluation and treatment of patients with common presentations of persistent pain including fibromyalgia, low back pain, and whiplash-associated disorders (WAD). This course is directly related to the practice of physical therapy and is therefore appropriate for the PT/PTA.
Editor's Note: Regarding Pennsylvania credits, this course is approved by the PA State Board of Physical Therapy for 1 hour of general and 1 hour of Direct Access CE credit.

Learning Outcomes
- Participants will be able to identify at least three key points of the biology of pain as it relates to understanding patients with persistent pain.
- Participants will be able to identify perpetuators of chronic pain into five different mechanisms: nociception, peripheral neuropathy, nociplasticity, abnormal movement, and psycho-social factors.
- Participants will be able to develop at least two key evaluation strategies for patients on the five mechanisms.
- Participants will be able to identify at least three terminology and procedures for non-pharmacological management strategies for central sensitization, stress, and sleep disorders.
- Participants will be able to outline at least three graded activity programs for patients with persistent pain.
